As 2024 comes to a close and the festive season is nearly upon us, we wanted to spread a little Christmas cheer your way! Our Technical and Operations Managers' children have been busy creating some hand-drawn cards. I'm sure you'll agree, they’re full of creativity and holiday spirit!

Also, because we all love fun facts, we’ve put together some Christmas trivia that we think you’ll enjoy. Use these at your Christmas parties to impress family and friends – they’re sure to spark some great conversations!

  1. Evergreens are an ancient tradition! Ancient Egyptians decorated their homes with green palms during the winter solstice, while Romans celebrated Saturnalia with evergreen boughs. The first Christmas trees, as we know them today, originated in Germany in the 16th century. 🎄

  2. "Silent Night" holds a record as the most recorded song, boasting over 733 different versions since 1978! 🎶

  3. The charming tradition of placing tangerines in stockings on Christmas Eve dates back to 12th-century French nuns who left socks filled with tangerines, nuts, and fruit for those in need. 🍊

  4. Did you know that the world’s tallest Christmas tree reached an astonishing height of 221ft? It was displayed in a Washington shopping mall back in 1950!  🛒

  5. Every year in the UK alone, around 10 million turkeys are cooked and devoured during Christmas celebrations. 🦃

  6. Santa Claus made his debut as a winter promotion thanks to Coca-Cola! 🎅

  7. Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas” is officially recognised as the bestselling Christmas song of all time. ❄️

  8. In Japan, fried chicken has become synonymous with Christmas dinner—KFC sees a surge in business on this festive day! 🐔

  9. The earliest known Christmas decorations were apples representing Adam and Eve, used by medieval actors during performances. 🍎

  10. Interestingly enough, Rudolph should be depicted without antlers; male reindeers shed theirs during winter! 🦌

  11. Finally, did you know that each year in the UK alone, enough wrapping paper is used at Christmas to cover the entire island of Guernsey? 🎁

From everyone at Water Hygiene Centre, we wish you a very Merry Christmas filled with joy and laughter! May your New Year be bright and prosperous!

Warm wishes,
